ALGIDUS See also:

MONS , a portion of the See also:ridge forming the rim of the larger See also:crater of the See also:Alban See also:volcano (see ALBANUS MONS) and more especially the eastern portion, traversed by a narrow opening (now called the Cava d'Aglio) of which the Via See also:Latina took See also:advantage, and which frequently appears in the See also:early military See also:history of See also:Rome. That a distinct See also:town existed (See also:Dion. Halic. R. 21, xi. 3) on the See also:mountain is improbable; there must have been a fortified See also:post, but the extensive See also:castle on the See also:hill (Maschio d'Ariano) to the See also:south of the Via Latina is entirely See also:medieval, a fact which has not been recognized by some topographers.
