ALIPUR , a suburb of See also:

Calcutta, containing See also:Belvedere See also:House, the See also:official See also:residence of the See also:lieutenant-See also:governor of See also:Bengal, and a number of handsome mansions. It lies within the limits of the See also:south suburban See also:municipality, and is a See also:cantonment of native troops. On the Calcutta See also:maidan, opposite Alipur See also:Bridge, stood two trees under which duels were fought. It was here that the See also:meeting in 178o between See also:Warren See also:Hastings and See also:Sir See also:Philip See also:Francis took See also:place.
