Having taken the degree of See also:doctor of See also:philosophy at See also:Strassburg in 1879, he returned to the See also:United States as Latin See also:professor at Johns See also:Hopkins University. In 1899 he was appointed Latin professor at Harvard. His See also:life-See also:work was a new edition of See also:Terence, which, however, he See also:left unfinished at his See also:death. He was director of the American School of Classical Studies in See also:Rome (1897—1899), and See also:president of the American Philological Association (1898). Among his publications are: " Enclitic Ne in See also:Early Latin " (Strassburg dissert., reprinted in Amer.
