ARABIAN See also:SEA (anc. See also:Mare Erythraeum) , the name applied to the portion of the See also:Indian Ocean bounded E. by See also:India, N. by See also:Baluchistan and See also:part of the See also:southern See also:Persian littoral, W. by See also:Arabia, and S., approximately, by a See also:line between Cape Guardafui, the See also:north-See also:east point of See also:Somaliland, and Cape See also:Comorin in India. It has two important branches—at the See also:south-See also:west the Gulf of See also:Aden, connecting with the Red Sea through the strait of Bab-el-Mandeb; and at the north-west the Gulf of See also:Oman, connecting with the Persian Gulf. Besides these larger ramifications, there are the Gulfs of See also:Cambay and Kach on the Indian See also:coast. An See also:interest and importance belong to this sea as forming part of the See also:chief See also:highway between See also:Europe and India.
