ARABICI , a religious See also:

sect originating about the beginning of the 3rd See also:century, which is mentioned by See also:Augustine (De Haeres. c. lxxxiii.), and called also Ovi ro>GuXirat (" mortal-souled ") by See also:John of See also:Damascus (De Haeres. c. xc.) The name is given to the Arabians mentioned by See also:Eusebius (Hist. Eccl. vi. 37), whose distinctive See also:doctrine was a See also:form of See also:Christian See also:materialism, showing itself in the belief that the soul perished and was restored to See also:life along with the See also:body. We may compare See also:Tatian's view of the soul as a subtler variety of See also:matter. According to Eusebius, they were convinced of their See also:error by See also:Origen, and renounced it at a See also:council held about A.D. 246.
