He studied See also:medicine at Erfurt, See also:Halle and See also:Jena, and in 1761 was entrusted with the superintendence of the military hospitals connected with the Prussian encampment near See also:Torgau. He published in 1765 a See also:treatise De Militusn Morbis, which met with a favourable reception. In 1768 he became See also:professor of medicine at Jena, whence he removed in 1773 to See also:Gottingen, and in 1785 to See also:Marburg, where he died of See also:apoplexy on the 21st of See also:January 1804. Among his pupils were S. T. Sommerring and J. F. See also:Blumenbach. Some eighty-four See also:separate See also:treatises are mentioned as having proceeded from his See also:pen, in addition to numerous papers scattered through various collections and See also:journals.
