BATAC , a See also:

town of the See also:province of Ilocos Norte, Luzon, Philippine Islands, so m. S. of See also:Laoag, the See also:capital. Pop. (1903) 19,524; subsequently, in See also:October 1903, the town of Banna (pop. 4015) was annexed. Cacao, See also:tobacco, See also:cotton, See also:rice and See also:indigo are grown in the neighbouring See also:country, and the town has a considerable See also:trade in these and other commodities; it also manufactures See also:sugar, fans and See also:woven fabrics. Batac was founded in 1587. It is the birthplace and See also:home of See also:Archbishop Gregorio Aglipay (b. 186o), the founder of an important See also:sect of Filipino See also:Independent Catholics.
