BENOIT See also:TURRETIN (1588-1631) , the son of Francesca Turretini, a native of See also:Lucca, who settled in See also:Geneva in 1579, was See also:born at See also:Zurich on the 9th of See also:November 1588. He was ordained a pastor in Geneva in 1612, and became See also:professor of See also:theology in 1618. In 162o he represented the Genevan See also:Church at the See also:national See also:synod of See also:Alais, when the decrees of the synod of See also:Dort were introduced into See also:France; and in 1621 he was sent on a successful See also:mission to the states-See also:general of See also:Holland, and to the authorities of the Hanseatic towns, with reference to the See also:defence of Geneva against the threatened attacks of the See also:duke of See also:Savoy. He published in 1618-1620 (2 vols.) a defence of the Genevan See also:translation of the See also:Bible, Eine Verteidigung der genfer Bibeliibersetzung (Defense de la fidelite See also:des traductions de la Bible faites a Geneve), against P. See also:Cotton's Geneve plagiaire. He died on the 4th of See also:March 1631.
