BERCK , a bathing resort of See also:

northern See also:France, in the See also:department of Pas-de-See also:Calais, 25 M. S. of See also:Boulogne by See also:rail. Pop. (1906) 7638. It comprises two parts—Berck-Ville, 11 m. from the See also:shore, and Berck-Plage, the latter with a See also:fine sandy See also:beach. There are two See also:children's hospitals, the See also:climate proving peculiarly beneficial in the treatment of scrofulous affections. About 150 boats are employed in the See also:fisheries, and See also:herrings See also:form the See also:staple of an active See also:trade. See also:Boat-See also:building and See also:fish-curing are carried on.
