On the See also:death of Matthew, Paul, who far surpassed him as an artist, succeeded to his See also:pensions and employments. He painted landscapes with a See also:depth of See also:chiaroscuro then little practised in See also:Italy, and introduced into them figures well See also:drawn and finely coloured. One of his best compositions is the " Martyrdom of St See also:Clement," in the See also:Sala Clementina of the Vatican.
