CARAVACA , a See also:

town of See also:south-eastern See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Murcia; near the See also:left See also:bank of the See also:river Caravaca, a tributary of the See also:Segura. Pop. (190o) 15,846. Caravaca is dominated by the See also:medieval See also:castle of See also:Santa Cruz, and contains several convents and a See also:fine See also:parish See also:church, with a miraculous See also:cross celebrated for its healing See also:power, in See also:honour of which a yearly festival is held on the 3rd of May. The hills which extend to the See also:north are See also:rich in See also:marble and See also:iron. Despite the lack of railway communication, the town is a considerable See also:industrial centre, with large iron-See also:works, tanneries and manufactories of See also:paper, See also:chocolate and oil.
