It is formed by the confluence of three See also:head-streams, one of which rises on the See also:northern versant of La Sagra (7875 ft.), a See also:mountain in See also:Granada, while the other two See also:spring from the Sierra de Segura, in See also:Jaen. From the junction of these three streams below Yeste the river winds in an easterly and south-easterly direction past the towns of See also:Cieza and Archena to See also:Murcia. Thence it trends N.E. and passing See also:Orihuela falls into the Mediterranean 19 m. S.W. of See also:Alicante. Its See also:chief tributaries are the Mundo and See also:Arroyo del Jua on the See also:left, and the See also:Caravaca, Quipar and Sangonera on the right. It is only navigable by small sailing-vessels, even in its See also:estuary, but its See also:waters are extensively utilized fcr See also:irrigation. End of Article: SEGURA (anc.
