DES BARREAUX, JACQUES VALLEE, SIEUR (1602—1673) , See also:French poet, was See also:born in See also:Paris in 1602. His See also:great-See also:uncle, See also:Geoffroy-Vallee, had been hanged in 1594 for the authorship of a See also:book called Le Fleau de la See also:foy. His See also:nephew appears to have inherited his See also:scepticism, which on one occasion nearly cost him his See also:life. The peasants of See also:Touraine attributed to the presence of the unbeliever an untimely See also:frost that damaged the vines, and proposed to See also:stone him. His authorship of the See also:sonnet on " Penitence," by which he is generally known, has been disputed. He had the further distinction of being the first of the lovers of See also:Marion See also:Delorme. He died at Chalon-sur-See also:Saone on the 9th of May 1673.
