DUMICHEN, JOHANNES (1833-1894) , See also:German Egyptologist, was See also:born near Grossglogau. He studied See also:philology and See also:theology in See also:Berlin and See also:Breslau. Subsequently he became a See also:pupil of See also:Lepsius and See also:Brugsch, and devoted himself to the study of See also:Egyptian See also:inscriptions. He travelled widely in See also:Egypt, and published his results in a number of important books. In 1872 he was chosen See also:professor of Egyptology at See also:Strassburg. The value of his See also:work consists not only in the stores of material which he collected, but also in the success with which he dealt with many of the problems raised by the inscriptions. Among his See also:works are Bauurkunde See also:des Tempels von See also:Dendera (1865) ; Geographische Inschriften altagyptischer Denkmaler (4 vols., 1865-'885); Altagyptische Kalenderinschriften (1866) ; Altagypt.
