EGER, AQIBA (1761–1837) , Jewish See also:scholar, was for the last twenty-five years of his See also:life See also:rabbi of See also:Posen. He was a rigorous casuist of the old school, and his See also:chief See also:works were legal notes on the See also:Talmud and the See also:code of See also:Qaro (q.v.). He believed that religious See also:education was enough, and thus opposed the party which favoured See also:secular See also:schools. He was a determined foe of the reform See also:movement, which began to make itself See also:felt in his See also:time.
