FELIXSTOWE , a seaside resort of See also:Suffolk, See also:England; fronting both to the See also:North See also:Sea and to the See also:estuary of the Orwell, where there are piers. Pop. of See also:urban See also:district of Felixstowe and See also:Walton (19or), 5815. It is 85 m. N.E. by E. from See also:London by a See also:branch See also:line from See also:Ipswich of the See also:Great Eastern railway; and is in the See also:Woodbridge See also:parliamentary See also:division of the See also:county. It has See also:good See also:golf links, and is much frequented by visitors for its bracing See also:climate and sea-bathing. There is a small See also:dock, and phosphate of See also:lime is extensively dug in the neighbourhood and exported for use as manure. The neighbouring See also:village of Walton, a See also:short distance inland, receives many visitors. The vicinity has yielded numerous See also:Roman remains, and there was a Roman fort in the neighbourhood (now destroyed by the sea), forming See also:part of the See also:coast See also:defence of the Litus Saxonicum in the 4th See also:century.
