FRAUENBURG , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in the See also:kingdom of See also:Prussia, on the Frische Haff, at the mouth of the Bande, 41 M. S.W. from See also:Konigsberg on the railway to See also:Elbing. Pop. 2500. The See also:cathedral (founded 1329), with six towers, stands on a commanding See also:eminence adjoining the town and surrounded by castellated wails and bastions. This is known as Dom-Frauenburg, and is the seat of the See also:Roman See also:Catholic See also:bishop of See also:Ermeland. Within the cathedral is a See also:monument to the astronomer See also:Copernicus bearing the inscription Astronomo celeberrimo, cujus nomen et gloria utrumque implevit orbem. There is a small See also:port with inconsiderable See also:trade. Frauenberg was founded in 1287 and received the rights of a town in 1310.
