GALATINA , a See also:

town of See also:Apulia, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Lecce, from which it is 14 M. S. by See also:rail, 233 ft. above See also:sea-level. Pop. (1901) 12,917 (town); 14,086 (See also:commune). It is chiefly remark-able for the See also:fine See also:Gothic See also:church of St Caterina, built in 1390 by Raimondello del Balzo See also:Orsini, See also:count of See also:Soleto, with a fine portal and See also:rose-window. The interior contains frescoes by See also:Francesco d' See also:Arezzo (1435). The See also:apse contains the fine See also:mausoleum of the son of the founder (d. 1454), a See also:canopy supported by four columns, with his statue beneath it.
