GAUR , the native name of the See also:

wild ox, See also:Bos (Bibos) gaurus, of See also:India, miscalled bison by sportsmen. The gaur, which extends into See also:Burma and the See also:Malay See also:Peninsula, where it is known as seladang, is the typical representative of an Indo-Malay See also:group of wild See also:cattle characterized by the presence of a See also:ridge on the withers, the compressed horns, and the See also:white legs. The gaur, which reaches a height of nearly 6 ft. at the See also:shoulder, is specially characterized by the forward See also:curve and See also:great See also:elevation of the ridge between the horns. The See also:general See also:colour is blackish-See also:grey. See also:Hill-forests are the resort of this See also:species.
