Lat. gravare, to weigh down; gravis, heavy), a complaint or grievance, the ground of a legal See also:action, and particularly the more serious See also:part of a See also:charge against an accused See also:person. In See also:English the See also:term is used chiefly in ecclesiastical cases, being the technical designation of a memorial presented from the See also:Lower to the Upper See also:House of See also:Convocation, setting forth grievances to be redressed, or calling See also:attention to breaches in See also:church discipline.
