GUHRDE , a See also:

forest of See also:Germany, in the Prussian See also:province of See also:Hanover, immediately W. of the See also:Elbe, between See also:Wittenberg and See also:Luneburg. It has an See also:area of about 85 sq. m. and is famous for its oaks, beeches and See also:game preserves. It is memorable for the victory gained here, on the 16th of See also:September 1813, by the See also:allies, under Wallmoden, over the See also:French forces commanded by Pecheur. The See also:hunting-See also:box situated in the forest was built in 1689 and was restored by Ernest See also:Augustus, See also:King of Hanover. It is known to See also:history on See also:account of the constitution of GGhrde, promulgated here in 1719.
