HERMSDORF , a See also:village of See also:Germany, in the Prussian See also:province of See also:Silesia. Pop. (1900) 10,975. There are See also:coal and See also:iron mines and See also:lime quarries in the vicinity, and in the See also:town there are large iron-See also:works. Hermsdorf is known as Niederhermsdorf to distinguish it from other places of the same name. Perhaps the most noteworthy of these is a village in Silesia at the See also:foot of the See also:Riesengebirge, chiefly famous for the ruins of the See also:castle of Kynast. This castle, formerly the seat of the Schaffgotsch See also:family, was destroyed by See also:lightning in 1695. A third Hermsdorf is a village in See also:Saxe-See also:Altenburg, where See also:porcelain is made.
