Although he painted some portraits remarkable for their See also:power of expression, he devoted himself principally to depicting with relentless See also:realism the monotonous See also:life of the fishing folk on the See also:sea-See also:coast, and of the peasants in the See also:fields. His See also:palette is joyless, and almost See also:melancholy, and in his technique he is strongly influenced by the impressionists. He was one of the founders of the secessionist See also:movement. From 1885 to 1890 Count von Kalckreuth was See also:professor at the Weimar See also:art school. In 1890 he resigned his professorship and retired to his See also:estate of Hockricht in See also:Silesia, where he occupied himself in See also:painting subjects See also:drawn'from the life of the See also:country-folk. In 1895 he became a professor at the art school at See also:Karlsruhe. The Munich Pinakothek has his "See also:Rain-See also:bow " and the See also:Dresden See also:Gallery his " Old See also:Age." Among his See also:chief See also:works are the Funeral at Dachau," " Homewards," " See also:Wedding Procession in the Carpathian Mountains," " The Gleaners," " Old Age " " Before the See also:Fish See also:Auction," " Summer," and " Going to School."
