Under See also:Brunswick he took a conspicuous See also:part in the campaign of Valmy in 1792, the See also:siege and See also:capture of See also:Mainz in 1793, and the battle of See also:Kaiserslautern in 1794. In the See also:campaigns against See also:Napoleon in 18o6 he played a marked part for See also:good or evil, both at Auerstadt and in the See also:miser-able See also:retreat of the beaten Prussians. In 1807 he defended See also:Danzig for 78 days against the See also:French under See also:Marshal See also:Lefebvre, with far greater skill and See also:energy than he had shown in the previous See also:year. He was promoted See also:field marshal soon afterwards, and conducted many of the negotiations at See also:Tilsit. He died as See also:governor of See also:Berlin in 18r8. The Dictees du Feldmarechal Kalckreuth were published by his son (See also:Paris, 1844).
