KAUKAUNA . a See also:

city of Outagamie See also:county, See also:Wisconsin, U.S.A., on the See also:Fox See also:river 7 M. N.E. of See also:Appleton and about Too m. N. of See also:Milwaukee. Pop. (1900), 5115, of whom 1044 were See also:foreign-See also:born (19o5) 4991; (1910) 4717. Kaukauna is served by the See also:Chicago & See also:North-Western railway (which has See also:car-shops here), by inter-See also:urban electric railway lines connecting with other cities in the Fox river, valley, and by river steamboats. It has a See also:Carnegie library, a See also:hospital and manufactories of pulp, See also:paper, See also:lumber and woodenware. Dams on the Fox River furnish a See also:good See also:water-See also:power. The city owns its water-See also:works. A small See also:settlement of See also:Indian traders was made here as See also:early as 1820; in 1830 a Presbyterian See also:mission was established, but the growth of the See also:place was slow, and the city was not chartered until 1885.
