LORRACH , a See also:

town in the See also:grand-duchy of See also:Baden, in the valley of the Wiese, 6 m. by See also:rail N.E. of See also:Basel. Pop. (1905) 10,794. It is the seat of considerable See also:industry, its manufactures including See also:calico, shawls, See also:cloth, See also:silk, See also:chocolate, See also:cotton, See also:ribbons, hardware and See also:furniture, and has a See also:trade in See also:wine, See also:fruit and See also:timber. There is a See also:fine view from the neighbouring Schutzenhaus, 1085 ft. high. In the neighbourhood also is the See also:castle of Rotteln, formerly the See also:residence of the See also:counts of Hachberg and of the margraves of Baden; this was destroyed by the See also:French in 1678, but was rebuilt in 1867. Lorrach received See also:market rights in 1403, but did not obtain municipal privileges until 1682. See See also:Hochstetter, See also:Die Stadt Lorrach (Lorrach, 1882).
