MAXIMILIAN , Freiherr von See also:

Gagern (1810-1889), the youngest son, was See also:born at See also:Weilburg on the 26th of See also:March 181o. Up to 1848 he was a See also:government See also:official in See also:Nassau; in that See also:year he became a member of the See also:German See also:national See also:parliament and under-secretary of See also:state for See also:foreign affairs. Throughout the revolutionary years he supported his See also:brother's policy, became a member of the See also:Erfurt parliament, and, after the collapse of the national See also:movement, returned to the service of the duchy of Nassau. In 1855 he turned See also:Roman See also:Catholic and entered the See also:Austrian service as See also:court and ministerial councillor in the See also:department of foreign affairs. In 1871 he retired, and in 1881 was nominated a See also:life member of the Upper Chamber (Herrenhaus). He died at See also:Vienna on the 17th of See also:October 1889.
