E.N.E. from See also:Manchester, by the See also:London & See also:North-Western railway. Pop. (19o1), 13,452. It lies in the valley of the Tame, See also:close to the junction of the boundaries of Lancashire, See also:Cheshire and See also:Yorkshire, and is surrounded by sharply-rising high ground, especially eastward. The See also:Huddersfield See also:canal passes it. Across the See also:river from the town See also:ancient earthworks (Bucton See also:Castle), of See also:British origin, are seen, and a See also:Roman road passing them, and See also:running north and See also:south is also traceable. Mossley has foundries, See also:mill-See also:works, woollen factories, and large See also:cotton-See also:spinning See also:mills.
