MUCUNA , a genus of See also:

twining See also:plants, belonging to the natural See also:order See also:Leguminosae, and natives of the tropics. M. pruriens is popularly known as cowhage or cowitch, a corruption of the See also:Hindu Kiwach. It is a tall See also:annual climber with large dark See also:purple See also:pea-like See also:flowers, and See also:golden-See also:brown velvety pods recalling those of the sweet pea, the hairs or bristles on which often raise blisters on the skin. It is See also:common in the tropical regions of See also:India, See also:Africa and See also:America, and the hairs on the pod have See also:long been used in See also:medicine as a vermifuge.
