MUSKHOGEAN STOCK , a See also:

North See also:American See also:Indian stock. The name is from that of the See also:chief tribe of the See also:Creek confederacy,the See also:Muskogee. It includes the Creeks, See also:Choctaws, See also:Chickasaws, Seminoles and other tribes. Its territory was almost the whole See also:state of See also:Mississippi, western See also:Tennessee, eastern See also:Kentucky, See also:Alabama, most of See also:Georgia, and later nearly all See also:Florida: Muskhogean traditions assign the See also:west and north-west as the See also:original See also:home of the stock., Its See also:history begins in 1527, on the first landing of the Spaniards on the Gulf See also:Coast. The Muskhogean peoples were then settled agriculturists with an elaborate social organization, and living in villages, many of which were fortified (see See also:INDIANS: North American).
