NAMAQUALAND , a region of See also:

south-western See also:Africa, extending along the See also:west See also:coast over 600 m. from See also:Damaraland (22° 43' S.) on the See also:north to 31° S., and stretching inland 8o to 350 M. It is divided by the See also:lower course of the See also:Orange See also:river into two portions—Little Namaqualand to the south and See also:Great Namaqualand to the north. Little Namaqualand forms See also:part of Cape See also:Colony (q.v.), and Great Namaqualand is the See also:southern portion of See also:German South-West Africa (q.v.). The See also:people of Namaqualand are the purest surviving type of See also:Hottentots, and number some twenty to See also:thirty thousand.
