The See also:battle of Olustee, or Ocean See also:Pond (the name of a small See also:body of See also:water in the vicinity), one of the most sanguinary engagements of the See also:Civil See also:War in proportion to the See also:numbers engaged, was fought on the loth of See also:February 1864, about 2 M. See also:east of Olustee, between about 5500 Federal troops, under See also:General Truman See also:Seymour (1824-1891), and about 5400 See also:Con-federates, under General See also:Joseph Finegan, the Federal forces being decisively defeated, with a loss, in killed and wounded, of about one-third of their number, including several See also:officers.
