N. of See also:Ludhiana. Pop. (1901), 6986. Founded by the See also:Mogul See also:emperor Shah Jahan, it was See also:long of importance as commanding the See also:crossing of the Sutlej. At the See also:Mutiny in 1857 the fort contained the See also:siege See also:train, which was sent safely to See also:Delhi; but the See also:sepoy See also:regiment in the See also:cantonment shortly afterwards mutinied and escaped. The fort is now occupied by the See also:police training school and the central See also:bureau of the criminal See also:identification See also:department.
