PICTOU , a seaport, See also:

port of entry, and See also:capital of Pictou See also:county, Nova See also:Scotia, go m. N.E. by N. of See also:Halifax, on a See also:branch of the Intercolonial railway. Pop. (Igor), 3235. It has several valuable See also:industries, and is the See also:shipping port for the adjacent See also:coal-mines. The See also:Academy, founded in 1818, played an important See also:part in the See also:early educational See also:history of the See also:province, and still enjoys a high reputation.
