cordite is adopted in the See also:British service; it derives the name from its See also:appearance as See also:cord in See also:short lengths, the See also:composition being squeezed in a viscous See also:state through the hole in a See also:die, and the cordite is designated in See also:size by the number ' of hundredths of an See also:inch in the See also:diameter of the hole. Thus the cordite, size 30, of the range table has been squeezed through a hole 0.30 in. diameter. The thermochemical properties of the constituents of an explosive will assign an upper limit to the See also:volume, temperature and pressure of the See also:gas produced by the See also:combustion; but much experiment is required in addition. See also:Sir See also:Andrew See also:Noble has published some of his results in the Phil. Trans., 1905–1906 and following years.
