CORDOBA , a See also:town of See also:southern See also:Spain in the extreme S.E. of the See also:province of See also:Cordova, near the headwaters of the See also:river Guadajoz, and on the See also:northern slope of the Sierra de Priego. Pop. (1900), 16,902. The See also:district abounds in See also:cattle and mules and agricultural products, especially See also:wine and oil. The See also:local See also:industries also include tanning and manufactures of See also:esparto fabrics, rugs and See also:cotton goods. The See also:oldest See also:church was built in the 13th See also:century and subsequently restored; it has a See also:fine See also:chapel. There are ruins of an old See also:castle—Priego having been a fortified See also:city of the See also:Moors which was captured by the Christians in 1226, lost again, and finally retaken in 1407.
