CORDOBA , a See also:

town of the See also:state of See also:Vera Cruz, See also:Mexico, 55 M. W.S.W. of the See also:port of Vera Cruz, in a highly fertile valley, near the See also:volcano of See also:Orizaba, and 288o ft. above See also:sea-level. Pop. (1895) 7974• The surrounding See also:district produces See also:sugar, See also:tobacco and See also:coffee, C6rdoba being one of the See also:principal coffee-producing centres of Mexico. It also manufactures See also:cotton and woollen fabrics. The town is regularly laid out and built of See also:stone, and contains several handsome edifices, See also:chief of which is the old See also:cathedral. C6rdoba was a town of considerable importance in colonial times, but See also:fell into decay after the revolution. The See also:rail-way from Vera Cruz to Mexico, which passes through it, and the development of coffee See also:production, have helped the See also:city to recover a See also:part of its lost See also:trade.
