SCHWETZINGEN , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in the See also:grand duchy of See also:Baden, situated in a See also:plain 9 M. by See also:rail S.E. of See also:Mannheim at the junction of lines to Carlsruhe, See also:Heidelberg and See also:Spires. Pop. (1905) 6858. It has a See also:castle, formerly the See also:residence of the See also:electors See also:palatine of the See also:Rhine, built in 1656, destroyed by the See also:French in 1689, but afterwards rebuilt. Its gardens, which occupy 117 acres, were laid out in the See also:middle of the 18th See also:century in See also:imitation of those of See also:Versailles. Cigars, See also:vinegar, See also:beer, yeast and jam are manufactured, while See also:tobacco and hops are cultivated. Scbwetzingen became a town in 1833.
