SWARTZ, OLOF (1760-1818) , See also:Swedish botanist, was See also:born in 1760. He commenced his botanical studies in See also:Upsala, under See also:Linnaeus and See also:Thunberg, and began See also:early to make excursions. He made a voyage to See also:America in 1783, visited See also:England in 1788, returned to See also:Sweden in 1789, and was made See also:professor of natural See also:history in See also:Stockholm. He was the author of many systematic See also:works, and largely extended our knowledge of both flowering See also:plants and cryptogams. He died in 1818.
