TARNOW , a See also:

town in See also:Galicia, See also:Austria, 164 m. W.N.W. of See also:Lemberg by See also:rail. Pop. (1900) 31,691, about 40 per cent. See also:Jews. It is situated on the See also:river Biala, not far from its junction with the Dunajec, and is the seat of a See also:Roman See also:Catholic See also:bishop. It possesses a See also:cathedral in See also:Gothic See also:style, built in the 15th See also:century, with monuments of the See also:Tarnowski and Ostrogski families, to which the town formerly belonged, and another See also:church built in 1454. On the Martinsberg, an See also:eminence near the town, stands the ruins of the old See also:castle of the Tarnowski See also:family, and a small church over 800 years old. See also:Worth mentioning also is the town See also:hall, an old and interesting See also:building. Agricultural implements, See also:glass and See also:chicory are manufactured.
