TONSBERG , a fortified seaport of See also:

Norway, in Jarlsberg-See also:Laurvik amt (See also:county), situated on a See also:bay on the See also:south See also:coast, near the entrance to See also:Christiania See also:Fjord, 72 M. S. by W. of Christiania on the See also:Skien railway. Pop. (1900), 862o. It is one of the most See also:ancient towns in Norway. It is the headquarters of a sealing and whaling See also:fleet. The See also:principal See also:industries are refineries for preparing See also:whale and See also:seal oil and saw-See also:mills. An interesting collection of antiquities and whaling implements is preserved in the Slotstaarn on See also:Castle See also:Hill.
