TRAUNSTEIN , a See also:

town and summer resort of See also:Bavaria, situated, at an See also:elevation of nearly 2000 ft., on the See also:river See also:Traun, 73 M. by See also:rail S.E. of See also:Munich. Pop. (1905), 7447. It distils See also:salt from the brine of See also:Reichenhall, whence (22 in. distant) it is brought in pipes. It has an See also:historical museum, four churches (three of which are See also:Roman See also:Catholic), two See also:fine fountains—a See also:monument of the See also:war of 1870-71 and one to See also:King See also:Maximilian II. There are saline See also:baths and breweries. In the vicinity are Empfing, with baths of all kinds and a See also:cold-See also:water cure See also:establishment on the Kneipp See also:system. Traunstein received civic rights in 1375.
