TRAUTENAU (See also:Czech Trutnov) , a See also:town of Bohemia, 120 M. E.N.E. of See also:Prague by See also:rail. Pop. (1900), 14,777, mostly See also:German. It is situated on the Aupa, a tributary of the See also:Elbe, at the See also:foot of the See also:Riesengebirge, and possesses a beautiful See also:church built in 1283 and restored in 1768. Trautenau is the centre of the Bohemian See also:linen See also:industry and has factories for the manufacture of See also:paper and for the utilization of the See also:waste products of the other See also:mills. Trautenau was founded by German colonists invited to See also:settle there by See also:King See also:Otto Kar II. of Bohemia, and received a See also:charter as a town in 1340. It was the See also:scene of two battles between the Prussians and Austrians on the 27th and the 28th of See also:June 1866.
