TROITSK , a See also:town of eastern See also:Russia, in the See also:government of See also:Orenburg, situated in a fertile See also:steppe, 315 M. N.E. of Orenburg, and 77 M. S. of See also:Chelyabinsk, on the Siberian See also:highway. Pop. (1885), 18,497; (1900), 23,293. It has grown rapidly in See also:modern times. The Troitskiy fort, erected in 1743, became a centre for See also:trade with the See also:Kirghiz steppe and See also:Turkestan, and in that trade Troitsk is now second only to Orenburg. See also:Cotton, See also:silk, and especially horses and See also:cattle are imported, while See also:leather, cotton,woollen and See also:metal wares are exported. An active trade in See also:corn for the Ural See also:gold mines is carried on. The See also:place has ironworks and tanneries.
