VOIRON , a See also:

town of See also:France in the See also:department of the See also:Isere. Pop. (1901) 12,625. It stands at a height of 950 ft., on the Morge (a tributary of the Isere). It is a manufacturing town, and contains numerous factories which produce a sort of See also:cloth named after the town, and also See also:silk-See also:weaving factories (2000 looms, with an See also:annual output of eight to nine million yards). There are also See also:paper-making factories in the town. The See also:fine See also:church of St See also:Bruno was built 1864-73 at the expense of the monks of the Grande See also:Chartreuse. Voiron is the starting-point of the See also:steam tramways to St See also:Laurent du See also:Pont, 12 M. (for the Grande Chartreuse), and to Charavines, 10 m. (for the See also:Lac de Paladru). Voiron See also:long formed See also:part of See also:Savoy, but in 1355 was exchanged (with the See also:rest of the region between the See also:Rhone and the Isere, watered by the Guiers Mort) by the See also:count with France for Faucigny and See also:Gex.
