ZARCILLO Y ALCARAZ, FRANCISCO (1707—1781); See also:

Spanish sculptor, was See also:born in See also:Murcia on the 12th of May 1707. At the See also:age of twenty he completed the statue of St Ines of See also:Montepulciano, which had been begun for the See also:Dominicans at Murcia by his See also:father. On the See also:death of the latter the care of the See also:family See also:fell upon Francisco, who with the help of his See also:brothers and sisters organized a workshop. In 1765 he also founded a small See also:academy, which, however, was speedily dissolved owing to disunion among the members. In the Ermita de Jesils in Murcia may be seen Zarcillo's scenes from the See also:Passion of Our See also:Lord, a vast See also:work in which all the sculptor's qualities and defects are revealed. In the See also:church of St See also:Miguel are an Immaculate Conception and a St See also:Francis. Mention should also be made of the See also:Christ at the Well in the church of See also:Santa Maria dellas Gracias in Murcia, and of the sculptures in See also:San Pedro and in the Capucine monastery in Murcia. Zarcillo worked in See also:wood, which was coloured. The ascription of the See also:stone sculptures on the See also:facade of the St See also:Nicolas Church in Murcia to him rests on conjecture.
