ZEPHYRUS , in See also:

Greek See also:mythology, the See also:west See also:wind (whence the See also:English " zephyr," a See also:light See also:breeze), See also:brother of See also:Boreas, the See also:north wind, and son of the Titan Astraeus and Eos, the See also:dawn. He was the See also:husband of Chloris, the goddess of See also:flowers, by whom he had a son, Carpus, the See also:god of See also:fruit (See also:Ovid, See also:Fasti, v. 197); by the See also:harpy Podarge he was also the See also:father of See also:Xanthus and Balius, the horses of See also:Achilles. Being spurned by See also:Hyacinthus (q.v.), he caused his See also:death by See also:accident at the hands of See also:Apollo. He was identified by the See also:Romans with Favonius, and Chioris with See also:Flora.
