ABATI , or DELL' ABBATO, NICCOLO (1512-1571), a celebrated See also:fresco-painter of See also:Modena, whose best See also:works are there and at See also:Bologna. He accompanied Primaticcio to See also:France, and assisted in decorating the See also:palace at See also:Fontainebleau (1552-1571). His pictures exhibit a See also:combination of skill in See also:drawing, See also:grace and natural colouring. Some of his easel pieces in oil are in different collections ; one of the finest, in the See also:Dresden See also:Gallery, represents the martyrdom of St See also:Peter and St See also:Paul.
