ADDAX , a genus of antelopes, with one See also:

species (A. nasomaculatus) from See also:North See also:Africa and See also:Arabia. It is a little over 3 ft. high, yellowish See also:white in See also:colour, with a See also:brown mane and a fringe of the same See also:hue on the See also:throat. Both sexes carry horns, which are ringed and See also:form an open See also:spiral. The addax is a See also:desert See also:antelope, and in habits probably resembles the gemsbuck. It is hunted by the See also:Arabs for its flesh and to test the See also:speed of their horses and greyhounds; it is during these See also:hunting parties that the See also:young are captured for See also:menagerie purposes.
