ALCIRA , a See also:

town of eastern See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Valencia; on the See also:left See also:bank of the See also:river See also:Jucar, and on the Valencia-See also:Alicante railway. Pop. (1900) 20,572. Alcira is a walled town, surrounded by See also:palm, See also:orange and mulberry groves, and by See also:low-lying See also:rice-swamps, which render its See also:neighbour-See also:hood somewhat unhealthy. See also:Silk, See also:fruit and rice are its See also:chief products. It is sometimes identified with the See also:Roman Saetabicula. In the See also:middle ages it was a prosperous Moorish trading-station.
